United States 1948

After the shocking death of FDR, Harry Truman rose to the Presidency and brought about the end of WWII. However, the expansion of Soviet influence, a flagging economy, and costly rebuilding efforts have dragged down Truman’s popularity. Will the Democrats go for a historic 4th term in the White House with Truman as their candidate? Can Thomas Dewey and the Republicans live up to overwhelming expectations? Can the Progressives and Dixiecrats put up strong showings? You decide!

United States 1964 – A Time For Choosing

After the tragic assassination of beloved President John F. Kennedy, VP LBJ finds himself at the helm. Fortunately for Johnson, the Republicans look poised to nominate Barry Goldwater, a firebrand Senator from Arizona known for his very conservative views and frequent foot-in-mouth coments. Arizona Senatorial – 2014 special election

Following his failed Presidential campaign in 2008, John McCain was forced immediately into a tough Senate race in 2010, facing a GOP primary challenge from the right. In the end, he won the general by a whopping 59-35 margin.  But his untimely death on July 4th weekend in 2014 led the AZ GOP scrambling for his replacement to run in the upcoming special election. Though the state grieved over beloved fmr. Sen. John McCain’s death, the race was by no means considered an automatic pick-up for the Republicans, despite some of the big names running on their side. Democrats were also successsful attracting big-name attention to their race, most notably recently recovered fmr.Congress-woman Gabrielle Giffords (famous for having been shot by a deranged man during a campaign event in January 2011). But w/ GOP superstar Sarah Palin having recently become an Arizona resident, and with Gov. Jan Brewer term-limited from running for another term as Governor, which AZ GOP female heavyweight will emerge to challenge former Senate candidate and moderate Jeff Flake in the GOP primary?

“The Democrats suffered a drubbing in the 1938 midterm elections, but President Roosevelt remains personally popular. As the world descends into war, will Roosevelt seek an unprecedented third term? If not, can the next Democratic nominee hold the New Deal coalition together? And who will emerge from the wide-open Republican field to capture the nomination?”

Following the Lib Dems’ crushing defeat in the alternative vote referendum and a drubbing in the local elections, Cameron is forced to push through major constitutional reform to keep Clegg on side.  There follows a sweeping Reform Bill, replacing 900 years of monarchy with a United Republic.  With an elected House of Lords appointing a new President, much like the US electoral college, who will be moving from Whitehall to Buckingham Palace?

On 19 November 2009, Herman van Rompuy was designated the first permanent President of Europe under the terms of the Lisbon Treaty.  But how would things have fared if the decision had been left to the people, and not to heads of state?  Would a little-known Belgian have taken the top spot, or would Tony Blair and Jean-Claude Juncker, the original favourites, have battled it out?

Running for reelection after defeating his hated rival, John Quincy Adams of the National Republican Party in 1828, President Andrew Jackson now faces another hated rival from his painful 1824 defeat as the National Republican candidate; Henry Clay. The newly formed Anti-Masonic Party is also running. This is the first American presidential election that will use the party convention to nominate candidates.
