European Union – 2010

President Forever 2008 + Primaries

Author: HarryBarclay

On 19 November 2009, Herman van Rompuy was designated the first permanent President of Europe under the terms of the Lisbon Treaty.  But how would things have fared if the decision had been left to the people, and not to heads of state?  Would a little-known Belgian have taken the top spot, or would Tony Blair and Jean-Claude Juncker, the original favourites, have battled it out?

  1. An excellent scenario! I would add more provincialism to the candidates, though, as many would stil identify more with their own countries. For example, Margot Wallström should absolutely lead the Swedish Socialist primaries with 30-35%.

  2. Great scenario, but it looks like the Green party primary & caucus dates are messed up – they all say 01/01/2009, a date which has already passed… Could you possibly put them in line with the other parties dates?

  3. It is an interesting scenario but i would have preferred the Europe of Freedom and Democracy group to have been present as well to begin with. I got round to adding it myself in the end though
