“London has changed. Things will never be the same after the very first suicide bombings in Western Europe happened here, and people want security and safety. Recent Scandals for Labour and the Lib Dems have caused a crisis in confidence, and the people of London are looking elsewhere. Minority parties are expecting a big break. The Conservatives are going through a renaissance with new leader David Cameron, and are seemingly predicted to knock Labour out of power in Greater London. So can Tony Blair, despite calls for his resignation, defy the odds?”

“Finally, there is optimism for the city of Glasgow 2 years after being Europe’s “City of Culture”. Regeneration is on the way, despite the depressed economy. After 13 years of Conservative British government, Labour are predicted to defeat them. Voters are rallying behind an ever-more dominant Labour Party from a Conservative government that has shown little care for the old shipbuilding industries. However, Labour do not have control of all 11 seats. The SNP took Glasgow Govan in a shock 1988 by-election win. Labour look for a whitewash, but could we see another shock gain or two?”

“Only over a year since the last election, Labour Party leader and Prime Minister, Clement Attlee has called for another, confident of increasing his majority. Or could it be third time lucky for Winston Churchill’s Conservatives? In the six years that have passed since the end of the Second World War, Labour has brought massive and popular changes. Such as the publicly-funded National Health Service, and a welfare state that guarantees care for all ages. However for Glasgow, homelessness is still rife and the famous shipbuilding industry on the river Clyde, a vital part of the war effort, have gone into decline. Glasgow is almost a tale of two cities, reflecting the closeness of the UK-wide election, with the Conservatives leading in the Protestant west of Glasgow, while Labour lead in the Catholic East of Glasgow.”

“Veteran MP Menzies Campbell, after doubts about his leadership over his age and the party plummeting in opinion polls, felt he had to resign. The Lib Dems felt, now that the threat of a 2007 snap general election had gone, that Menzies would do more damage than good over the next year or two. Only 2 candidates have had enough support to stand for leadership. Chris Huhne, who ran in the previous leadership race, is running against the young, inexperienced Nick Clegg. Some say there is little difference between the two, however Huhne takes a more left-wing approch to Clegg. The Lib Dems hope they will have a TV media-savvy, impressive, charismatic leader who will revitalize their fortunes.”

“After a decade of Labour Party rule, the government has finally fallen on a vote of no confidence. Can the Labour Party win a fourth term with its new leadership? The Conservatives finally have a chance at winning back 10 Downing Street but can they do it? And will the Liberal Democrats finally break out of their third party status?”

“Burnley is the stronghold of the British National Party, the far right group who obtained the first ever far right councilor in 1993. Since 2002, they have had a strong presence in the Lancashire town of Burnley.

I hope that this scenario will be interesting both for supporters and opposers of the BNP – to see how successful they could become or how the party’s presence could be destroyed entirely. Or those who don’t care and want to see the Tories expand their presence or UKIP gain ground. Funds and costs have been made realistically low.”

“After having been plunged into ‘No Overall Control’ after the 2003 Local Election, Leicester has seen the rise and fall (and rise once more) of a Lib Dem-Tory Coalition. Can Labour regain control of a council they held for generations, amidst controversy over Council Tax and Community Funding, or will the Lib Dems achieve a second landmark win, this time, winning control of a majority council?”
