1992-2019 UK scenarios (Plus+)

I have taken time to redux several UK scenarios including,

United Kingdom – 1992

United Kingdom – 1997

United Kingdom – 2010

United Kingdom – 2015

United Kingdom – 2017

United Kingdom – 2019

(Note: a 2024 scenario is upcoming, and is currently being actively developed by me.)

The reason these are “reduxes” is that I took it upon myself to add further context to the candidates’ profiles, their ideological positioning, the polling in each election, alternate candidates, updated issues that are coherent to the respective election, many unique alternative-history and real-life events, and some touch-ups to the visual aspects of these scenarios, such as candidate pictures, colors, and so on.

Some specific examples of changes and additions I made are David Miliband as an alternate Labour leader in the 2015 election, Gordon Brown as an alternate Labour leader, and Michael Portillo as an alternate Tory leader in the 1997 election.

I also want to heartily thank everyone who worked on these scenarios. In some cases, they were “base” scenarios, such as 2017 or 2010, and in other cases they were based on user scenarios, such as 1992 or 1997. Again, full and unlimited credit goes to them.

I am also currently working on several other scenarios, including 1983, 1987, and 2005, but the work on those respective scenarios is still ongoing, and I do not feel they are ready to be released. I would also like to release a 2001 scenario, which currently does not have one, likely due to the boring nature of the election, but regardless, it would be nice for every election to have a respective scenario. I would also like to make a 2007 alternate-history scenario in which Brown called an election.

United Kingdom 2019 – Improved Percentages

An exact carbon copy of the official 2019 scenario, but with improved percentage numbers – the base scenario uses a uniform swing but constituency polls have shown that this doesn’t produce accurate results. Numbers based off all publicly available Constituency and MRP polls, with some discretion used.

2016 – United Kingdom EU Referendum

2016 – United Kingdom EU Referendum

The growth of Euroscepticism in Britain has resulted in this referendum. David Cameron has sought to renegotiate Britain’s place in the EU but many think he hasn’t done enough. The battle lines are drawn and Britain’s political heavyweights are ready to tackle the biggest issue in British politics. Will Britain vote to remain in the EU or will they vote to upset the establishment and undo fourty years of European integration?

Vote Leave

  • Boris Johnson (Conservative)
  • Michael Gove (Conservative)
  • Gisela Stuart (Labour)
  • Nigel Farage (UKIP)

Britain Stronger in Europe

  • David Cameron (Conservative)
  • George Osborne (Conservative)
  • Alan Johnson (Labour)
  • Stuart Rose (Conservative)

Three years ago, the EU Referendum changed everything in British politics. The campaign was exciting, it engaged millions of voters and in the end leave won 52%-48%. Brexit has dominated British politics since that result in 2016 and this campaign was where it all started!

United Kingdom – 2012

President Forever 2008 + Primaries

Author: HarryBarclay

Following the Lib Dems’ crushing defeat in the alternative vote referendum and a drubbing in the local elections, Cameron is forced to push through major constitutional reform to keep Clegg on side.  There follows a sweeping Reform Bill, replacing 900 years of monarchy with a United Republic.  With an elected House of Lords appointing a new President, much like the US electoral college, who will be moving from Whitehall to Buckingham Palace?

Please note: a big thank you goes to Tom Hughes who put together the original UK 2010 scenario, which was my inspiration, and from which I have adapted my map.  His excellent scenario is here.

European Union – 2010

President Forever 2008 + Primaries

Author: HarryBarclay

On 19 November 2009, Herman van Rompuy was designated the first permanent President of Europe under the terms of the Lisbon Treaty.  But how would things have fared if the decision had been left to the people, and not to heads of state?  Would a little-known Belgian have taken the top spot, or would Tony Blair and Jean-Claude Juncker, the original favourites, have battled it out?
