York Council Election - 2007
York Council Election – 2007

“In 2003, the Liberal Democrats took control of York Council, booting Labour out of power after 2 decades of rule. However, with controversy over the introduction of evening parking charges and fortnightly bin collections, Labour could tip the balance of power in their favour once again. The city of York lies in the North Yorkshire region of northern England. This is a region the Conservatives usually do well in, but in 2003, they were wiped out as Labour went from strength to strength nationally, and the Lib Dems being voted increasingly, by a more environmentally friendly younger generation of students and rich entrepreneurs. The city boasts a very low unemployment rate, but concerns grow over crime. However, with the Tory revival imminent, how will the Green, Labour & Lib Dems vote shares cope? Can Labour sneak into power?”

“Tony Blair’s Labour party seems set to capture 10 Downing Street for a third consecutive term. Will Howard’s Conservatives stun the incumbents, or could the Tories tumble to third-place behind a rising Liberal Democratic party?”

Carrassian Assembly – 2009

“Carrassia, an island nation in the Mediterranean Sea of Micras, is the home of the Micronational World’s United Nations and a world leader in diplomacy.  It is a multinational state home to three major peoples: Italian, French, and Spanish; united only by the ruling King Andonio I.  Carrassia is holding its National Assembly elections, with the incumbent People of Freedom government.  Who will decide the future of this prosperous island nation: the People of Freedom, the Democratic Party, the Center Union, the Left or the Right?”

Kozakura – 2009

“A Japanese-themed island nation in Micras, Kozakura was severed from its mother country Shinkoku after a bloody war.  Since then the island has had successions of government and is known for its relative political instability.  However, some stability has returned to the island with the election of a National Liberal government in 1999.  Will the incumbent National Liberals sweep to comfortable re-election, or will the opposition parties pull off an upset victory?”

Dorset – 2005

“Dorset is for the most part solidly Tory territory, but Poole North and Dorset Mid was captured by the Lib Dems at the last general election and Dorset South is marginally Labour. Can the Tories take these seats for a clean sweep? Or will the Lib Dems take back Christchurch, which they lost 8 years ago?”

British Columbia – 1975

“NDP Premier, David Barrett has called a snap election three years after he led the party to a comfortable victory at his first attempt. The task may be more difficult this time as the opposition are less split three ways; the Social Credit party, refreshed by a new leader, have already persuaded Liberal, NDP and Progressive Conservative MLAs to join their ranks. Bill Bennett, son of WAC Bennett is the new Social Credit Leader. There are new leaders also for the Liberals (Gordon Gibson) and the Progressive Conservatives (George Wallace). To counter Barrett’s openly Socialist  NDP, Bennett had shifted the Social Credit party towards the centre ground.”

Wales National Assembly – 2007

“The ruling Welsh Labour party have lost their majority in the Welsh Assembly after one Labour AM left to become an independent. This was embarrassing for the party. The prospect of Lab-Plaid coalition looms in this election, as Labour’s popularity has dropped slowly but steadily.  Once the new term begins, the election winner(s) will have more powers in the Assembly than ever before, thanks to the Government of Wales Act 2006. Nationalist party Plaid Cymru, have complained the increased devolved powers don’t go far enough. After a disappointing 2005 General election, Plaid hope for better results. The Conservatives are on course to hurt Labour’s vote and for their best result since the Assembly began. Meanwhile, the Lib Dems are  looking stale as criticisms continue of their leader.”

Acadie – 2009

“The 2008 Federal Elections for the Parliament of Acadie returned to power the Parti Libéral, one seat short of a clear majority. The new government was unable to get its budget passed when the Acadie Solidaire, who held the balance of power, voted with the Parti Conservateur opposition. This has forced a new Federal Election, which gives an opportunity to both Libéral and Conservateur to win a majority. The Acadie Solidaire’s hope is to hold the balance of power. The Parti Vert hope to win a seat.”
